The last Saturday and Sunday of April the White House was opening up the gardens for tours. We jumped at the chance to see the White House up close. Cold weather was the forecast for Saturday, but we braved it, packed a lunch and headed to DC.
We knew we were not going to be the only ones wanting to tour the gardens, so headed into DC early to get in line for tickets. We thought we'd try to get two tours in one trip and we had not been able to tour the Washington Monument yet. Kevin stood in line for the monument and the kids and I went and got in line for the Garden Tour. After lots of waiting and some running we scored tickets to both. It was freezing that day in DC, but all the running to get in lines and make it to the tours in time kept us warm.

We were able to get a great parking spot near the Washington Monument.
Park Ranger recruted these two into helping pick up trash and make DC more beautiful.
They did a great job!
Our turn for the White House Garden Tour...More waiting in line.
There were lots of people, major security checks needed!
