Misawa City Cultural Tour

The Airmen & Family Readiness center here on base gives tours of the City of Misawa and surrounding area.

We started with a brief introduction of Japanese etiquette, a few helpful Japanese phrases, and a quick understanding of what we could find in the bathrooms. Then we were off.

We started at the Misawa Cultural Center.
We were given a lesson on more Japanese. How to count when we use our yen for lunch. What are some of the different noodles that they serve in the shopping area we were going for lunch.  There was even more information they gave us, but I can't even try to recall it.  When I try to fit in a ton of new information in one week, my brain starts to select what it will remember and what it won't.

It was a ton of fun to get off base and try a few new things.

My first Japanese meal...Miso Ramen
so yummy!

Kevin and the kids had a kind of fried noodles, with something like chicken nuggets, and apple fanta.
They all loved the apple soda, but wished they had the ramen.

Local Shrine

We got a kick out of the English translations;)

Japanese Cedar trees

We ended the tour at the fish market.  So many cool and different fish!  They don't look edible, but the were.  Kevin and I even braved a few samples.  One that really shocked Kevin was when we were handed small dried fish. They felt like eating old, cold french fries with a fishy taste.  Not too bad, but we don't think we will be buying any to take home and munch on.
