Sully Historical Site for an All Hallows Eve

Sully Historic Site
Completed in 1799 by Richard Bland Lee, the main house at Sully combines aspects of Georgian and Federal architecture. Richard Bland Lee was Northern Virginia's first Representative to Congress, as well as General Robert E. Lee's uncle.

This historic site is only 10 minutes from our house. They were having a special tour showing what it may have been like to celebrate Halloween in colonial times...we weren't going to miss that!

There was story telling at the slave quarters. We were taught about the medical treatments of the day...now that was scary!  We were taught how they used the kitchen and how they made apple butter. We were able to have a taste test, yummy!  Fortune telling and hay maze. Not sure those were colonial activities, but still fun for the kids. We ended with a candle light tour of the main house and they showed us what they did back then to morn for someone who had died.

Very cool!

My kids love doing these kind of activities and always find them fascinating! Oh and apple butter sounds so good!
