Mason Neck & Mount Vernon Trail

It was a beautiful spring day in April.  The weather was going to be perfect, warm and not humid.  We decided it was time to check out Mason Neck.
Mason Neck is a nature area with walking trails and wild life viewing.  Ethan's favorite animal is the Bald Eagle and we were on the hunt to find one.  Sad to say we had no luck for seeing a Bald Eagle, but we still had a great time exploring.

We missing having Cole with us. He was away on a scout camp out.

We couldn't make Ethan's dream come true, in finding a Eagle.  However, I got my wish...
After Mason Neck we had a picnic lunch and drove a few minutes to Mount Vernon.  The George Washington Parkway ends at Mount Vernon and goes along the Potomac River all the way up to Washington, DC.  There is a fantastic trail that follows the parkway.  One of my favorite roads in the area is the George Washington Parkway and I have been wanting to take a bike ride on the trial since we moved here.  We finally got our chance and boy it did not disappoint!

We made it to mile marker 4 and headed back.  The kids did 8 miles total.
Kevin and I were super impressed!
The best part is that they never complained...we all had such a great day!
It would have been perfect if Cole was able to come with us:)

View of Fort Washington from across the river.

The end...Time for ice cream!
