Harpers Ferry National Park

Harpers Ferry was our first day trip that we got to take with Kevin
after getting him back from COT.

This old historic town sits at the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers.  It was a very important town because of the ferry and many battles were fought here because of the need to control the ferry.
It is like stepping into the past.  We spent the day walking through museums showing the daily life that was lived in the town throughout its history, walking the old cobble stone streets, dipping our feet in the river, walking a small part of the Appalachian trail and eating the largest ice cream cones the kids had ever seen.  It was a hot and humid day and that ice cream sure hit the spot!

Cole and Izzy were enlisted up to fight in the War of 1812 and we all got to feel the weight of the guns they used in the Civil War.

It was a really fun trip and we would have more pics but the camera batteries died right away:(
Always check the batteries!

View from the old church that is still used today.

The remains of the old cotton mill that sat right along the Potomac River.

The kids beside the old railroad tracks.
